Summer Skincare Routine for Men with Oily Skin (What I Actually Do)

Introduction : summer skin care routine for oily skin men

Summer in India is brutal and if you have oily skin like me, it feels even worse.

The heat, the humidity, the sweat everything just makes your face look like a grease pan by 10 AM. And don’t even get me started on the breakouts.

Every summer I used to deal with more pimples, more blackheads, and more tan than the rest of the year combined.

It took me a while to figure out what actually works. I changed my routine, tried different products, made some mistakes, and eventually landed on something that genuinely keeps my skin under control even in peak summer.

Here’s exactly what I do.

⚠️ Quick note: I’m not a dermatologist. This is based on my personal experience. I HAVE TREID AND TESTED THESE PRODUCTS ON MYSELF. Always patch test new products and consult a dermatologist if you have serious skin concerns.

Why Summer Hits Oily Skin So Hard

Before I get into the routine let me quickly explain what’s actually happening to your skin in summer.

Heat and humidity push your sebaceous glands into overdrive. They produce way more oil than usual. That oil mixes with sweat, sunscreen, pollution, and dead skin cells — and the result is clogged pores and breakouts.

Add the fact that Indian summers mean direct harsh UV exposure for months and you’ve got tan, dark spots, and acne scars that take forever to fade.

The good news is once you understand this you can actually work with your skin instead of constantly fighting it.

My Morning Routine in Summer

Step 1: Face Wash

I start with a gentle gel-based face wash nothing too harsh. I made the mistake of using a super strong cleanser thinking it would control my oil better. It didn’t. It just stripped my skin and my face produced even more oil by noon to compensate.

I look for face washes with salicylic acid it gets into the pores and cleans them out without being too aggressive. Twice a day is enough. No more.

I personally used the derma co salicyclic acid face wash in summers

Step 2: Toner (OPTIONAL)

At the begging when I started skin acre I used to believe that using many products make my skin better and clear but It is just waste of my money yes toner is good for skin but just minimum 3 steps routine is enough for me now before I used to follow this :

After cleansing I use an alcohol-free toner. In summer this step feels especially refreshing. It balances my skin’s pH after washing and tightens my pores a little.

Step 3: Lightweight Moisturizer

I know moisturizer in summer feels counterintuitive when your face is already oily. But skipping it is a mistake I made for years.

Dehydrated skin produces more oil to compensate. A light gel-based or water-based moisturizer with hyaluronic acid gives your skin the hydration it needs without any greasiness. I apply it on slightly damp skin so it locks in better.

I personally use the ponds gel based moisturizer is suits for my skin very well

Step 4: Sunscreen

Non-negotiable. Every single day.

The sunscreen I personally use is Dermatouch Multivitamin SPF 50++++. It works really well for my oily skin no white cast, no greasiness, and it actually stays on through sweat which is rare.

If you’re outdoors for a long time reapply every 2 hours. One morning application is not enough when you’re sweating.

Which is better to remove tan, applying sunscreen on tanned skin or de tanning in a salon?

My Evening Routine in Summer

Double Cleanse

In summer I always double cleanse at night. First an oil-based cleanser to break down sunscreen and pollution, then my regular face wash.

This sounds like extra effort but it takes maybe 3 minutes and makes a huge difference. Leftover sunscreen sitting on your skin overnight is one of the biggest reasons for summer breakouts.

Night Moisturizer

Same as morning a light gel based moisturizer. Your skin repairs itself overnight so don’t skip this step even in summer. best mositurizers

Exfoliation (2–3 Times a Week)

I exfoliate 2–3 times a week in the evening never more than that.

In summer I have already used most of the chemical products while doing exfoliation

I won’t used any chemical products I go for natural home remedies these are also works like a magic

Lifestyle Changes That Made a Difference

Honest truth my routine alone wasn’t enough. These small habits changed things significantly for me:

I started cleaning my phone screen regularly. Your phone touches your face multiple times a day and it carries a lot of bacteria. I never thought about this until my jawline kept breaking out.

I changed my pillowcase twice a week. Sweat and oil build up on your pillowcase and go right back onto your face every night.

I shower immediately after working out. Letting sweat sit on your skin is a guaranteed way to clog pores in summer.

I drink more water. At least 8–10 glasses a day. My skin looks noticeably better when I’m properly hydrated.

I cut back on junk food. High sugar and processed foods triggered more breakouts for me especially in summer when my skin was already stressed.

Drinking 9 glasses of water is must and cutting out junk food is also must just eat once in a week from outside or if you made it in home

Products I Use and Recommend

StepWhat I Look For
Face WashSalicylic acid, gel-based, pH balanced
TonerNiacinamide, witch hazel, alcohol-free
MoisturizerHyaluronic acid, gel or water-based, oil-free
SunscreenSPF 50+, non-comedogenic, matte finish
ExfoliantSalicylic acid or glycolic acid, chemical not physical

Mistakes I Used to Make Every Summer

  • Washing my face too many times : 4-5 times a day thinking it would control oil. Made it worse.
  • Skipping moisturizer : skin got dehydrated and produced even more oil
  • Not reapplying sunscreen : one morning application was never enough outdoors
  • Using hot water : always use lukewarm water, hot water stimulates oil glands
  • Switching products too quickly : your skin needs at least 4–6 weeks to adjust, I used to give up after a week

When Should You See a Dermatologist?

If you’ve been consistent with your summer routine for 6–8 weeks and still dealing with painful cystic acne or your skin is getting worse despite everything please see a dermatologist.

Some skin conditions genuinely need prescription treatment and no amount of skincare products will fix them on their own. There’s no shame in getting professional help.

FAQs

My skin gets worse every summer what am I doing wrong?

Most likely one of these over-washing, skipping moisturizer, not reapplying sunscreen, or not cleansing properly at night. Fix these basics first before adding more products to your routine.

Does drinking water actually help with oily skin?

It genuinely does. When you’re dehydrated your skin compensates by producing more oil. I noticed a visible difference in my skin when I started drinking 8–10 glasses a day consistently.

Which sunscreen is best for oily skin in summer?

Look for gel-based, non-comedogenic, SPF 50 or higher. I personally use Dermatouch Multivitamin SPF 50++++ and it works really well for oily skin without any white cast or greasiness.

How often should I exfoliate in summer?

2–3 times a week maximum. I know it feels like more would be better but over-exfoliating damages your skin barrier and makes everything worse especially in summer when skin is already more sensitive.

Can I skip moisturizer in summer if my skin is already oily?

I used to think so too. But no skipping it makes your skin produce more oil. Just switch to a lightweight gel moisturizer and your skin will actually feel less greasy over time.

Should I wash my face more often in summer since I sweat more?

No stick to twice a day. If you’ve been sweating a lot like after a workout, a gentle rinse with plain water is fine but don’t add more face wash sessions. Over-washing strips your skin and causes rebound oiliness.

My Final Thoughts

Summer with oily skin used to genuinely stress me out. Shiny face, constant breakouts, getting darker by the week it felt never ending.

But once I stopped fighting my skin and started working with it things got so much better. The right cleanser, a lightweight moisturizer, daily sunscreen, and a few small lifestyle habits that’s honestly all it takes.

Don’t overcomplicate it. Start with the basics, stay consistent, and give your routine at least 4–6 weeks before judging the results.

And please don’t skip the sunscreen. Everything else you do in your routine means nothing if you’re stepping out unprotected every day.
