My honest journey to achieving that dewy, translucent glow using simple pantry staples you probably already have.
Okay, let me be real with you I was sceptical. Every time I scrolled through Instagram or YouTube seeing people with that gorgeous, glass-like skin, I assumed it was either filters or a 10-step routine with products worth a month’s salary.
But here I am, telling you that I actually achieved it at home, with ingredients sitting right in my kitchen. And I want to walk you through exactly how I did it.
The moment I decided to try something different
My skin had been looking dull and tired for weeks. I’d been spending money on products that promised results but delivered nothing. One evening, I just got fed up and decided to go back to basics.
I knew that rice water had been a beauty secret in Asian cultures for centuries, that aloe vera is basically skin food, and that glycerin is one of the best humectants out there. So I thought why not combine what I know works, in a simple routine I can actually stick to?
That’s when I came up with my two-mask, alternating weekly routine. And honestly? It changed my skin.
My weekly schedule
The key to this routine is consistency and not overdoing it. I follow a three-days-on, alternating pattern every week:
| Mon | Tues | Wed | Thurs | Fri | Sat | Sun |
| Glow | Hydrate | Glow | Hydrate | Glow | Hydrate | Rest |
What’s in each ingredient and why it actually works
Before I get into the masks themselves, I want to break down every ingredient I use. Because when I understood what each one does for my skin, I stopped seeing this as a “home remedy” and started seeing it as actual skincare science.
Rice Flour
Exfoliant · Brightener
Rice flour is a natural, finely milled exfoliant that buffs away dead skin cells without micro-tears that harsh scrubs can cause. It contains ferulic acid, a powerful antioxidant that fights sun damage and brightens the skin over time.
It also has natural oil-absorbing properties, making it perfect for those with combination or oily skin. I noticed my skin texture becoming visibly smoother within the first two weeks of use.

Masoor Dal Powder (Red Lentil)

Exfoliant · Complexion Booster
This is an age-old Indian beauty secret and for very good reason. Masoor dal is rich in proteins, vitamins B and C, and antioxidants. It helps gently exfoliate while improving skin tone and reducing the appearance of dark spots and tan.
Its anti-inflammatory properties also help calm redness and irritation. When used consistently, it genuinely evens out skin tone I noticed my stubborn forehead pigmentation fading after about three weeks.
Rose Water
Toner · Soother
Rose water is a natural toner that helps balance the skin’s pH after cleansing, which is crucial for keeping breakouts at bay. It has gentle anti-inflammatory properties that reduce redness and puffiness. The antioxidants in rose water protect skin cells from damage,
while its mild astringent effect helps tighten pores without drying out the skin. It also makes the mask smell absolutely lovely, which is a bonus.

Aloe Vera Gel

Healer · Hydrator · Soother
Aloe vera is basically nature’s multi-tasker. It contains over 75 active compounds including vitamins, enzymes, minerals, and amino acids. It hydrates deeply without leaving skin greasy, heals minor inflammation and acne, and promotes collagen synthesis which keeps skin firm and youthful.
The cooling sensation it provides on application is also genuinely soothing after a long day. I use fresh aloe straight from the plant when I can it makes a real difference.
Glycerin
Humectant · Barrier protector
Glycerin is one of the most scientifically proven skincare ingredients out there. As a humectant, it draws water from the air into the deeper layers of your skin and holds it there, keeping your skin plump and hydrated for hours.
It also helps repair and strengthen the skin’s natural barrier, which means your skin gets better at retaining moisture on its own over time. It’s completely non-comedogenic, so it won’t clog your pores a worry I had at first.

Rice Water

Brightener · Cell-renewer
Rice water is the real star of this entire routine. It’s rich in inositol — a unique carbohydrate that penetrates the hair and skin shaft to repair damage from the inside. It contains vitamins B, C, and E, along with minerals and amino acids that brighten the complexion and even out skin tone.
Regular use visibly reduces the appearance of pores and fine lines. I ferment mine overnight for extra potency, and the difference compared to plain rice water is noticeable.
Vitamin E Capsule Oil
Antioxidant · Skin repairer
Vitamin E is a fat-soluble antioxidant that neutralises free radicals the environmental damage from sun, pollution and stress that causes premature aging. It helps fade dark spots, old acne scars and hyperpigmentation with consistent use.
It’s deeply nourishing and helps restore the lipid barrier of the skin, leaving it soft, smooth and visibly healthier. I just poke one capsule per use with a pin and squeeze the oil right into the mask. Simple, affordable, and incredibly effective.

Mask 1 The glow mask (Monday, Wednesday, Friday)

I mix rice flour, masoor dal powder, glycerin, aloe vera gel, rose water and rice water together until I get a smooth paste-like consistency not too thick, not too runny. The exfoliating duo of rice flour and masoor dal does the deep work while the hydrating ingredients make sure my skin isn’t stripped in the process.
I apply it, leave it on for 15–20 minutes, and rinse with lukewarm water. My skin always looks visibly brighter immediately after. By the end of week one I could already feel the texture becoming smoother.
Mask 2 The hydrating mask (Tuesday, Thursday, Sunday)
This one is my favourite. It feels like drinking a glass of water but for your face. I mix rice water, aloe vera gel, vitamin E oil from a capsule and glycerin. No exfoliation here, just pure, intense nourishment and hydration on the days in between.
This mask gives me that dewy, glass-like finish the next morning. The combination of rice water’s brightening power and vitamin E’s repairing action means I wake up looking genuinely rested and glowing.
Why listen to me :

Written by Sahil sheikh with 2 years of experience in men’s skin care I have tried and tested many home remedies and skin care products on myself
I have helped over 10 individuals in my friends and family to overcome their skin care problem. I have been recommending skin care products for my college frinds according to their skin type and skin problem and it has helped them a lot
My Experience Using This Home Remedy
My skin Transformation in one week ( just 7 days )
What I noticed week by week
By the end of the first week, my skin felt noticeably softer. The rough, uneven texture I used to have especially around my cheeks had started smoothing out. By week two, people started commenting that my skin looked different.
“You’re glowing,” someone told me. I was beaming.
By week three, the dullness was completely gone. My skin had this natural, lit-from-within look that I had only ever seen in skincare ads. I wasn’t using filters, I wasn’t wearing highlighter my skin just looked like that.
Tips that helped me stay consistent: I prepped rice water in bulk (fermented overnight for extra benefits), stored my aloe vera gel in the fridge for a cooling, refreshing application, and kept masoor dal pre-powdered in a small jar. When everything is ready to go, you’re far more likely to actually do it.
Note : You can store rice water for 7 days not more than that and the aloevera and massor daal until it get expires
My honest tips before you start
Do a patch test before using any new mask, especially if your skin is sensitive. Apply a small amount on your inner wrist and wait 24 hours. Also, always follow up with a moisturiser after rinsing off any mask your skin needs to seal in that hydration.
Don’t expect overnight results. Give it at least two full weeks of consistent use before you judge. And most importantly every skin is different. Listen to yours.

Glass skin isn’t about being perfect it’s about being healthy, hydrated, and consistent. I found my version of it in my kitchen, and honestly, I wouldn’t trade it for any expensive serum. Give this routine a genuine try for a month and see what it does for you. I have a feeling you’ll be pleasantly surprised.
